What's the craziest challenge you've ever subjected yourself to?
Many of us have put our skills and resolve to the test through various physical, mental, psychological - even spiritual - challenges. But I'd be willing to be that most our our greatest challenges pale in comparison to the Misogi that my guest on today's show completed!
Dave Grange is quite possibly the only person on the planet to complete a 5-5-5 challenge: he ran 5 marathons, in 5 consecutive days ... in 5 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES! (Let that sink in). Yes, in August of 2023, Dave set out to successfully run 5 trail marathons as he traversed through the alps of Switzerland, the Dolomites of Italy, France, Austria and Slovenia. His entire excursion was self-supported, meaning he spent his own money, rented a car that he slept/lived out of, navigated the entire journey himself - in spite of language barriers - and was completely alone with no team to help, guide or encourage him!
Through his coaching company, Live Stellar, Dave coaches clients to maximize their mindset and performance to create truly exceptional lives. And Dave not only promotes a stellar life, he walks the walk as a husband, father and friend.
This conversation covers a ton of stellar content, and you will learn about the following:
Dave's family and how he and his wife parent their 4 children under the age of 8
how Dave and his wife Rio prioritize their relationship even in the midst of major life transitions and the trappings of busy day-to-day lives
What it means to live a Stellar lifestyle, and how your habits form your disciplines that lead to BIG growth & success over time
How prioritizing your personal health and living an active lifestyle will help you cultivate the mindset for success in all other areas
Why Misogis are a sacred practice that anyone can adopt and use for incredible personal growth and self-discovery
How Dave's faith in God propelled him through his 5-5-5 and lifted him out of some of the darkest & scariest moments
How shifting your mindset from "have to" to "get to" - even in the face of immense challenge - can be the difference between quitting and continuing on
How doing hard things opens the door to our greatest potential as we ask ourselves the question, "If I can do that, what else am I capable of?"
All this and more will be covered in this episode, and you will be sure to come away feeling inspired and encouraged on your own Uncommon journey!

Have you ever gotten burnt out from doing something you love?
That was where my guest on today's show found himself several years ago. Barry Karch was an avid runner, with an almost insatiable appetite for completing the next big race. But overtime he grew to resent and dread the very activity that had provided him with so much joy & fulfillment...
So what did Barry do?
He took the next 2 decades off from running! And as he approached his 60s, Barry realized he wasn't getting any healthier. He knew he needed to make a change, and 1 question from his wife got the wheels turning in his head:
"Do you think you'll ever do another race?"
And he did! The past several years have been a "running rennaissance" for Barry as his love for the sport has been rekindled and his passion burns brighter than ever! And his renewed commitment to running has not only improved his fitness, but has also paid dividends in other areas of his life!
In our conversation we talk about the mindset needed to train and persevere for physical challenges, and how doing hard things proves that you're capable of more than you imagined. The question of "What else can I do?" feeds the desire to work harder and push further. We discuss Barry's podcast, and the inspiring stories shared by Barry & his guests.
We also discuss Barry's upcoming Misogi: Chad Wright's Rite of Passage, where Barry will spend 24 continuous hours on his feet as he hikes through the mountains in Georgia!
Be encouraged and inspired to know it's NEVER too late to start and resolve yourself to ascend to new heights in any area of life!

In this episode I speak with Nic Collins, a man on a mission to run down his dreams! "Uncommon" is an appropriate label for Nic, who is an athlete and ultra distance runner, a podcaster, a therapist-in-training, and a man in the constant quest for growth and adventure!
We talk about Nic's experience with personal development coaching, and how his travels and experience with therapy inspired his desire to leave his job and return to school to pursue a career in counseling. Nic desires to create opportunities for men to work on themselves out in nature, and do hard things as the avenue for self-reflection and growth.
We also get into Nic's journey for holistic health, including the numerous ultra events and physical challenges he's endured (the guy has completed a 5k every day for over 4 years!).
Nic also shares about his own podcast, The Constant Quest, where he and his co-host explore the issues that men face, and the tactics and mindset that can lead to improvement, breakthrough and transformation over time!
Finally, Nic shares about his latest adventure as he is embarking on a cross-country drive in his outfitted van, where he will explore the amazingly diverse American landscape as he continues to pursue his own growth and fulfillment in life!

Erik Allen is a man of integrity, hard working, and an overcomer. Growing up in a broken home, Erik was forced to grow up fast, even having to raise himself from the age of 14. He battled addiction, loneliness, and hopelessness as he desperately tried to fill the gaping voids in his life. As a young man Erik found himself empty and tired of settling for less. After the feverish pursuit of the Holy Spirit, Erik decided to surrender and trust the one that would never let him down.
Once Erik gave his life to Christ, his life completely turned around. He met a beautiful woman and a new chapter was written. He could look back on God's faithful hand and sustaining love that was with him throughout his decades of struggle.
Now, Erik and his wife of 18+ years and their two children live in Northern Idaho and live a humble and blessed life. Together they are breaking the cycles handed down to them of addictions, depression, abuse, and lies. They are leaving a new legacy for their next generation built on a biblical foundation.
Enjoy this conversation with Erik Allen, and be encouraged to know that God loves YOU! He has an Uncommon plan for your life! And He is always with you even in your darkest moment!

What comes to mind when you hear the word "liturgy?"
Is it a stale or stuffy religious word? Is it a concept that seems overly pious or impersonal? What if liturgy was actually our opportunity to practically live out our faith in our moment by moment interactions as a family?
In this episode I explore the practice of liturgy, and its useful application in our daily lives: from getting ready for the day, driving in our cars, dealing with discipline, and gathering for meals.
God's word has much to say on how we are to raise our children in the faith:
Proverbs 20:7 The righteous who walks in his integrity - blessed are his children after him!
Josh 24:15 …choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served… or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 these commandments that i give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress (or teach) them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up… *so always
Psalms 78:5-6 He decreed statues for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children
Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
The practice of liturgy offers us a template of prayer that can remind us and empower us to worship God even in the messiest moments!

Have you heard this age old adage: Easy choices, hard life; hard choices, easy life?
In this episode we look at how choosing to do hard things - even manufactured adversity - will equip you with the resolve and grit to overcome inevitable challenges later in life.
The "effort paradox" refers to the counterintuitive phenomenon where individuals often avoid engaging in activities that require effort, despite knowing that doing so would lead to long-term benefits or rewards.
Choosing to do hard things has numerous benefits including:
strengthening your future memory
building your resilience
cultivating a growth mindset
enhancing problem-solving and creativity
deepening relationships
Are you making easy decisions that are leading you to a hard life, or making hard decisions that are leading you to an easy life filled with Uncommon growth?

On today's episode I talk with Alejandro Avendano aka the Million Friends Guy, who is on a mission to build an impactful network, make the world a better place, and leave a legacy for his son Noah.
Alejandro is a runner, a husband, a father, friend, and much more! He recently added published author to that list with the launch of his children's book, Noah's Space Ark. His book features 12 different animal characters that serve as archetypes for important character traits (i.e. Be Kind like Tony the Rabbit, modeled after motivational speaker Tony Robins). His book is a fantastic way to introduce children to important qualities they should aspire to cultivate in their own lives!
We also discuss the importance of reading regularly to our children, helping them to embrace their own curious nature, and the practical ways in which we can make reading simple and fun!
Alejandro shares about his background growing up, and how time away from his family forced him to create his own family through friendships. He saw how important relationships are in his own life, and he continues to prioritize intentional friendships and community even now as he is married and growing his family.
Enjoy this conversation, and the message of adventure and hope that Alejandro is spreading with his own life and art! You can learn more about Alejandro by following him on instagram
